This clay tablet preserves a copy of a royal inscription of king [Hammurabi](https://www.worldhistory.org/hammurabi/) of [Babylon](https://www.worldhistory.org/babylon/) (reigned 1792-1750 BCE; Old Babylonian Period), which had been found in an ancient [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/). The writer has attempted to imitate the original [script](https://www.worldhistory.org/script/), and has used a clay of exceptional fineness. Late Babylonian Period, c. 600-500 BCE. From Babylon, [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), modern-day Iraq. (The British Museum, London).
