## Image Caption

This image shows three painted heads of the female [pharaoh](https://www.worldhistory.org/pharaoh/) Maatkare [Hatshepsut](https://www.worldhistory.org/hatshepsut/), each originally part of a full-body osiride statue. Here, the female pharaoh appears as the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Osiris](https://www.worldhistory.org/osiris/) (presumably in mummified form), with her orange skin tone a blend between the red ochre paint typically used on men, and the pale yellow complexion of an [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) woman. (c. 1479-1458 BCE, the Metropolitan Museum of Art).
