## Image Caption

This tablet (tabular) dates to the 2nd century BCE and the ancient [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Thyatira. Thyatira was once a Lydian city, on the border of [Lydia](https://www.worldhistory.org/lydia/) and Mysia, but at times was under the control of the Persians, and then the generals of [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/). It is one of the seven churches mentioned in John's [New Testament](https://www.worldhistory.org/New_Testament/) apocalyptic work, the [book of Revelation](https://www.worldhistory.org/Book_of_Revelation/), and is mentioned in the book of Acts in the New Testament. The inscription on this tablet reads, "The People (honored) hero Demoneikos, son of Artemidoros."

## About the Author

In university Ronnie concentrated his studies on the Greco-Roman world while writing his senior thesis on the Reformation. He has studied Koine Greek and Hebrew at the masters level, and is currently studying Turkish.
