## Image Caption

Arsenical [copper](https://www.worldhistory.org/copper/) axe-head, dating to the [Middle Kingdom of Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/Middle_Kingdom_of_Egypt/). It has nine binding-holes, three in each [tang](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tang_Dynasty/). Traces of the original wooden haft survive and the remains of some organic material are preserved in the corrosion product on one face. Metallographic analysis has shown that after casting the blade was probably finished by hot working and that the cutting edge was used. British Museum, London
