Detail of the [Etruscan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Etruscan_Civilization/) Sarcophagus of the Spouses, considered one of the great masterpieces of [Etruscan art](https://www.worldhistory.org/Etruscan_Art/). It is a late 6th century BCE Etruscan anthropoid sarcophagus made of terracotta. It depicts a married couple reclining at a banquet together in the afterlife and was found in 19th century excavations at the necropolis of [Cerveteri](https://www.worldhistory.org/Cerveteri/) (ancient Caere).
