## Image Caption

Female figurine known as the Karpathos Lady. Limestone, 4500-3200 BCE. Found on Karpathos, [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/). This object is the oldest [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) statue in the British Museum's collection. Particular care has been taken to define the face, breasts and vulva of this figure, suggesting it has a connection with female fertility. This image was taken at the National Museum of Australia in the British Museum travelling exhibition A History of the World in 100 (and 1) Objects.
