## Image Caption

This granite statue of [Ramesses II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ramesses_II/) was discovered at the [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of Khnum, Elephantine, [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/) (1280 BCE). [Ramesses](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/ramesses/) II was a very successful ruler between around 1279-1213 BCE. Here he holds a crook and flail and wears a double crown, symbolising his power over Upper and Lower Egypt. This image was taken at the National Museum of Australia in the travelling exhibition A History of the World in 100 (and 1) Objects.
