The statue sows a wealthy lady from the latter part of [Hadrian](https://www.worldhistory.org/hadrian/)'s reign. The body is Pentelic marble from [Athens](https://www.worldhistory.org/Athens/), [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/) but the head is of a finer marble from the [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) island of [Paros](https://www.worldhistory.org/Paros/). Emperor Hadrian rebuilt [Cyrene](https://www.worldhistory.org/cyrene/) after the Jewish revolt of 115-116 CE. He restored the major buildings, including the [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of [Apollo](https://www.worldhistory.org/apollo/) and even brought settlers from [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/) to re-populate the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/). [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/), 130-140 CE. Found in the co-called Temple of [Aphrodite](https://www.worldhistory.org/Aphrodite/), Cyrene, Libya. Excavated by R. M. Smith and E. A. Porcher. (The British Museum, London).
