These silver coins show the Sassanian "King of Kings" Bahram II (reigned 276-293 CE). He wears a winged crown to symbolize Verethragna, god of victory. On the back (lower image), the king stands to the left of a Zoroastrian fire altar. Each Sassanian ruler had his own fire kept alight during his reign. Silver drachm coins, no mint, date within King's reign. 276-293 BCE. From the Sassanian Empire, Iran and modern-day Iraq. (The British Museum, London).
