The State of Sogdia was conquered by the [army of Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/676/the-army-of-alexander-the-great/) in 327 BCE. The early coins from Sogdia copy the coins of [Alexander](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Alexander/)'s [Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/empire/), telling us that they were issued after the [conquest](https://www.worldhistory.org/warfare/). Comparisons like this allow ancient coins to be placed in order, relative to each other. 3. [Silver](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silver/) coins minted in Macedonia, [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/), during or after the reign of [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/). 4. Silver coins minted Sogdia (modern-day Uzbekistan and Tajikistan) after Alexander's conquest. Circa 325-15 BCE. (The British Museum, London).
