## Image Caption

This unusual medium-sized hanging bowl (made of [copper](https://www.worldhistory.org/copper/)-alloy) displays a curious mix of styles and techniques. The enamelled disc seen on the base is typically [Celtic](https://www.worldhistory.org/celt/), while the open-work ring surrounding it is inlaid with stamped foil that is more typically Anglo-[Saxon](https://www.worldhistory.org/Saxons/). Perhaps the bowl was made by a craftsman trained in both traditions, or in workshop where Celtic and Anglo-Saxon craftsmen worked together. Donated by Mrs. Edith M. Pretty. 6th to early 7th century CE. From the ship-[burial](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/) mound 1 at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, [England](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/england/), UK.
