This offering table, from a [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) or a [tomb](https://www.worldhistory.org/tomb/), bears a depiction of a mat laid with food offerings; loaves, water vessels, and fowl. Ritual libations were poured over the images to purify them for the magical consumption by the owner's spirit. The water ran off via the spout. The inscription identifies the owner as Nesptah, son of Governor Montuemhat. Nesptah inherited his father's worldly and priestly offices. Early 26th Dynasty, reign of Psamtek I, circa 650 BCE.
