Three altars dedicated to Ceasar [Augustus](https://www.worldhistory.org/augustus/) are found in the theater on the site of the ancient [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Metropolis. Metropolis was a Greco-[Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) city situated between two of the great [cities](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of antiquity, [Ephesus](https://www.worldhistory.org/ephesos/) and Smyrna. The city possibly dates back to the [Bronze Age](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Bronze_Age/) since there are [Hittite](https://www.worldhistory.org/hittite/) [hieroglyphics](https://www.worldhistory.org/Egyptian_Hieroglyphs/) that date to around that time. Though the city was founded in the 8th century BCE it did not flourish until the [Hellenistic period](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hellenistic_Period/). The city at some point or another was under the control of the Pontic King [Mithridates VI](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mithridates_VI/), but then spent most of the first-century BCE onward under Roman control.

In university Ronnie concentrated his studies on the Greco-Roman world while writing his senior thesis on the Reformation. He has studied Koine Greek and Hebrew at the masters level, and is currently studying Turkish.
