## Image Caption

The Stag Hunt [Mosaic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mosaic/) signed by Gnosis, from the House of the Abduction of [Helen](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Helen/) in Pella ([Macedon](https://www.worldhistory.org/macedon/), [Greece](https://www.worldhistory.org/greece/)), late 4th century BCE. The figure on the right is possibly [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/) due to the date of this mosaic. The figure to the left wields a double-headed axe, likely alluding to [Hephaistos](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hephaistos/). The dog depicted is possibly Peritas, [Alexander](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Alexander/)'s favorite dog.
