The remains of the Heraion, [Samos](https://www.worldhistory.org/samos/). The sanctuary was sacred to the goddess [Hera](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hera/) and first built in the 8th century BCE. The single standing [column](https://www.worldhistory.org/column/) belonged to the 6th century BCE [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of Hera built during the reign of [Polycrates](https://www.worldhistory.org/Polycrates/).
