## Image Caption

The [mosaic](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mosaic/) from [Roman Britain](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Britain/), features [Bacchus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Bacchus/) riding on a tiger rather than the more usual spotted leopard, referring to the myth that the [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) visited [India](https://www.worldhistory.org/india/). Appropriately enough, the mosaic was discovered during building work on the premises of the [east India Company](https://www.worldhistory.org/East_India_Company/) in 1803 CE. From Leadenhall Street, London, UL, 1st or 2nd centuries CE. (The British Museum, London)
