## Image Caption

This is also known as the Ilam [pan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Pan/), a souvenir of [Hadrian's Wall](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hadrians_Wall/). This colorful [bronze](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/bronze/) pan lacks its handle and base. The flamboyant [Celtic](https://www.worldhistory.org/celt/) style ornement is inlaid with turquoise, blue and red enamel. The inscription below the rim lists four forts at the western end of [Hadrian](https://www.worldhistory.org/hadrian/)'s [Wall](https://www.worldhistory.org/wall/): MAIS (Bowness-on-Solway), COGGABATA (Drumburgh), VXELODVNVM (Stanwix), CAMMOGLANNA (Castlesteads). The rest of the inscription- RIGORE VALI AELI DRACONIS - appears to refer to Hadrian's Wall and to a man named Draco. He may have been a soldier who had the pan made as a souvenir of his military service on the Wall. From Ilam, Stadffordshire, UK. 2nd century CE. (The British Museum, London)
