In the antiquity, the statue represented an attendant of the original [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) Mithras and would have held a torch, but in the 18th century, the arms were restored with attributes of the Trojan prince Paris. Discovered outside [Rome](https://www.worldhistory.org/Rome/) in 1785 CE and sold by the dealer Thomas Jenkins to Count Fries in Vienna in 1787 CE.
