This is a fragment of a basalt statue of [Ptolemy I](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ptolemy_I/) (general of [Alexander the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Alexander_the_Great/)), who founded the [Ptolemaic Dynasty](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ptolemaic_Dynasty/) of [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/). He wears the [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) royal headdress and the protective serpent. It is said that it was found in the lining of a well in the [Nile](https://www.worldhistory.org/nile/) Delta, Egypt. Circa 305-283 BCE. The British Museum, London.
