## Image Caption

This is a cylinder [pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/pottery/) jar (Type 50 B, pinkware). The name of King KA (and contents) was brushed on the jar using a black ink. King KA ruled just before the 1st Dynasty in [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/). In general, few vessels from this period bore the name of early [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) kings. These royal names were inscribed within a frame called "serekh", a rectangle with the falcon [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Horus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Horus/) represented above. From [grave](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/) 261 at Tarkhan, Egypt. Pre-Dynastic Period, Naqada IIIB, circa 3100 BCE.
