The [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) of [Zeus](https://www.worldhistory.org/zeus/) at Labraunda in Caria (modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/)), built in the 4th century BCE with the Andron A (banqueting hall) in the background. Labraunda is the home of the Sanctuary of Zeus Labraundos and is located in the mountains overlooking the plain of Milas. It was the most important sanctuary in Caria, especially in the 4th century BCE when King Mausolus, the [satrap](https://www.worldhistory.org/Persian_Governor/) of Caria, made Labraunda his family sanctuary.
