## Image Caption

A Red Figure Chous. Date: c. 430–420 BCE Dimensions: H. 22.5 cm The chous was a drinking vessel associated with [the Anthesteria](https://www.worldhistory.org/The_Anthesteria/), a festival that celebrated both [Dionysos](https://www.worldhistory.org/Dionysos/) and [Hermes](https://www.worldhistory.org/Hermes/) of the Underworld. Here we see [Dionysus](https://www.worldhistory.org/Dionysos/) at left and a stayr at right. This scene recalls the drunken festivities of the first two days of the Anthesteria.
