The [Amarna Letters](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amarna_Letters/) are a group of correspondences exchanged between the rulers of the Ancient [Near East](https://www.worldhistory.org/Near_East/) and [Egypt](https://www.worldhistory.org/egypt/). The tablets cover the reigns of the rulers [Amenhotep III](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amenhotep_III/), [Akhenaten](https://www.worldhistory.org/Akhenaten/) and possibly Smenkhkare or Tutankhamen, of the 18th dynasty of Egypt and continued to be used for approximately a [hundred years](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Hundred_Years/) after the end of the [Amarna Period](https://www.worldhistory.org/Amarna_Period_of_Egypt/). The first letters were found in 1887 CE and date back to the 14th century BCE.
