A 50:1 scale model of the Second [Temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/), this detailed replica was originally commissioned by Hans Kroch for the Holyland Hotel in memory of his son, [Jacob](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jacob/), following [Israel](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Israel/)'s [War](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) of Independence. It was designed by Hebrew University's Professor of [Archaeology](https://www.worldhistory.org/Archaeology/), Michael Avi-Yonah, in 1966CE and was later relocated to the Israel Museum in 2006 CE. The model covers nearly one acre and recreates the layout and architectural style of 66 CE [Jerusalem](https://www.worldhistory.org/jerusalem/) during the dawn of the Great Revolt against the Romans. The revolt would result in the destruction of the Temple as well as the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) in 70 CE.
