The Dipylon oinochoe inscription is a short text carved on an ancient [Greek pottery](https://www.worldhistory.org/Greek_Pottery/) vessel dated to c. 740 BC. It is one of the oldest known examples of the use of the [Greek alphabet](https://www.worldhistory.org/Greek_Alphabet/). The letters are scratched on a wine jug (oinochoe) which was in the ancient Dipylon Cemetery ([Athens](https://www.worldhistory.org/Athens/)). The vessel is today located in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
