This is a close-up image of the upper part of a [copper](https://www.worldhistory.org/copper/) figurine of [Ur-Nammu](https://www.worldhistory.org/Ur-Nammu/), king of [Ur](https://www.worldhistory.org/ur/). The lower half of this foundation figurine is not shown but it was inscribed with [cuneiform](https://www.worldhistory.org/cuneiform/) inscriptions which mention that the figurine is dedicated to [Inanna](https://www.worldhistory.org/Inanna/) ([Ishtar](https://www.worldhistory.org/ishtar/)) and records the restoration of her [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) at [Uruk](https://www.worldhistory.org/uruk/). Ur-Nammu depicts himself as a temple builder and carries a large basket of earth (on his head) for making bricks. From the temple of Inanna at Uruk, southern [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), modern-day Iraq. Neo-[Sumerian](https://www.worldhistory.org/Sumerians/) period, 2112-2095 BCE.
