## Image Caption

This ivory plaque is part of the so-called "[Nimrud](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kalhu/) Ivories." The [sphinx](https://www.worldhistory.org/sphinx/) wears the typical [Egyptian](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Egyptian/) Pharaohs' double crown and an apron with cobra. This indicates that the plaque was made by a Phoenician craftsman. From Nimrud (ancient [Kalhu](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kalhu/)) northern [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), Iraq. Neo-Assyrian period, 911-612 BCE. (The British Museum, London).
