## Image Caption

This limestone statue is the only discovered statue which depicts a completely naked woman. It is very likely that the statue represents an attendant of goddess [Ishtar](https://www.worldhistory.org/ishtar/) or Ishtar herself in her role as a goddess of love. The [cuneiform](https://www.worldhistory.org/cuneiform/) inscriptions on the back of the statue mention that the Assyrian king ordered such statue to be erected for the enjoyment of people. From the Ishtar [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) at [Nineveh](https://www.worldhistory.org/nineveh/) (modern Ninawa Governorate, Iraq), northern [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), Iraq. Middle Assyrian period, reign of king [Ashur](https://www.worldhistory.org/ashur/)-bel-kala, 1073-1056 BCE. (The British Museum, London).
