This military face mask is one of the most exceptional finds at the Kalkriese [battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) grounds. As 'The Kalkriese Type' it stands as the prime example for masks with a small face, the eyes are not particularly even, but give good sight. It is made of iron with [silver](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silver/) overlay. The silver have been stripped off. At the chin you can find a fixing for the helmet, which probably possessed cheekprotectors. It dates from the first part of the 1st century CE. (Museum und Park Kalkriese, Germany)
