## Image Caption

This alabaster panel was part of the decorative scheme of the [palace](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/palace/) of King [Tiglath Pileser III](https://www.worldhistory.org/Tiglath_Pileser_III/) (reigned 745-727 BCE) at [Kalhu](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kalhu/). The king is shown in his [chariot](https://www.worldhistory.org/chariot/), while in another scene above Assyrian soldiers drive out prisoners and flocks from a fortified [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/), Astartu. The band of [cuneiform](https://www.worldhistory.org/cuneiform/) across the middle relates part of Tiglath Pileser's account of his building and military achievements but has no direct relation to the scenes depicted. From [Nimrud](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kalhu/) (ancient Kalhu), [Mesopotamia](https://www.worldhistory.org/Mesopotamia/), northern Iraq. Neo-Assyrian era, c. 730-727 BCE.
