The [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) bridge built over the Guadiana River at Emerita Augusta (Mérida, Spain) in the 1st century CE is the longest surviving bridge from ancient times, having once featured an estimated overall length of 755 m (2477.03 ft) with 62 spans. Today, there are 60 spans on a length of 792 m.
