The Torreon (or Observatory) at [Machu Picchu](https://www.worldhistory.org/Machu_Picchu/), Peru, c. 1450 CE. The tower is a rare example of curved [Inca architecture](https://www.worldhistory.org/Inca_Architecture/). The tower, as is typical of [Inca](https://www.worldhistory.org/Inca_Civilization/) [architecture](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/architecture/), incorporates natural features into its design. Below the structure a room was carved out of a cleft in the rock and used for the worship of the sun [god](https://www.worldhistory.org/God/) [Inti](https://www.worldhistory.org/Inti/).
