The [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) Near Naples, from *Der Weisskunig*, print illustration by Hans Burgkmair, c. 18th century.

This is a depiction of a battle near Naples in the heavily romanticized biography of Holy [Roman Emperor](https://www.worldhistory.org/Roman_Emperor/) Maximilian I. The Italian Wars were a series of conflicts pitting major powers like the [Holy Roman Empire](https://www.worldhistory.org/Holy_Roman_Empire/), France, Venice, and Naples at [war](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) over control of the peninsula between the late 15th century and the end of the 16th century.
