## Image Caption

Postern tunnel under Yerkapı, photograph by Alena Belova, Boğazkale, Türkiye, 16 November 2022.

The corbel-vaulted postern tunnel pictured here, about 70 m long, runs beneath the artificial Yerkapı rampart at Hattusa, the [Hittite](https://www.worldhistory.org/hittite/) capital in central Türkiye. Built of large stone blocks laid without mortar, it allowed people to pass in and out of the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) under the walls (14th-13th century BCE).
