The [Temple of Apollo at Didyma](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/640/the-temple-of-apollo-at-didyma/) in modern-day [Turkey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Asia_Minor/). The [temple](https://www.worldhistory.org/temple/) was the fourth largest temple in the ancient [Greek](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/greek/) world. The temple’s oracle, second in importance only to that at [Delphi](https://www.worldhistory.org/delphi/), played a significant role in the religious and political life of both Miletus and the greater [Mediterranean](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/mediterranean/) world. The ruins today date from the 4th century BCE.
