## Image Caption

A 1918 photograph showing pro-Cheka Bolsheviks holding a banner which reads: "[Death](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Death/) to the bourgeois and their helpers. Long live the Red Terror." The Cheka was the Bolshevik secret police and repsonsible for conducting the wave of repression and executions against thsoe deemed enemies of the state, a period known as 'The Red Terror.'
