This wood engraving print shows a scene from the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Fort Donelson, during the [American Civil War](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Civil_War/), where Union troops in the foreground are charging Confederate troops during the Confederate's unsuccessful 'breakout' attempt while defending Fort Donelson. The battle continued until 16 February, until a Confederate surrender of the fort and a Union victory.
