At the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Fort Henry on 06 February 1862 during the [American Civil War](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Civil_War/), Union forces, under the command of A. H. Foote, attacked the Confederate held fort with iron clad ships. It resulted in a victory for the Union and carries naval historical significance as the first time iron clad ships were used in battle.
