At the beginning of the [American Civil War](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Civil_War/), Sterling Price was given command of the Missouri State Guard, and he was a Confederate ally who contributed to the Confederate victory at the [Battle](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/battle/) of Wilson's Creek. Price notably became a major general in the Confederate States Army in March 1862, where he played a role in a number of further actions throughout the [war](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/). Price later died in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1867.
