Claiborne Fox Jackson was the governor of Missouri during the [American Civil War](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Civil_War/), and although Missouri was a neutral border state at the beginning of the [war](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/), Jackson was strongly sympathetic to the Confederate cause, collaborating with Confederate generals during the war. Jackson eventually died in Little Rock, Arkansas, in December 1862.
