This is an image of the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of Amasia with the royal tombs of the Pontic rulers from this region in the cliffs behind the town. The dynasty entombed here were originally Iranian, and the influence of rock-carved tombs such as those of the Achaemenids at Naqsh-e Rostam ([burial](https://www.worldhistory.org/burial/)-place of [Darius](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/darius/) II, [Artaxerxes II](https://www.worldhistory.org/Artaxerxes_II/), [Darius the Great](https://www.worldhistory.org/Darius_I/), [Xerxes I](https://www.worldhistory.org/Xerxes_I/)) is clear.
