The title of this mezzotint roughly translates to 'Francesco Corbetta, the Renowned Guitar Master'. Corbetta was born in Pavia, [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/) in 1615, and throughout his life he followed his passion for the guitar, working as a teacher and composer, as well as performing to a range of royalty and nobility across [Europe](https://www.worldhistory.org/europe/). Corbetta eventually died in 1681 in [Paris](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/paris/).
