Depicted here in Delacroix's painting is the bare-breasted allegorical figure of Liberty, a woman of the people. She wears a Phrygian cap that symbolises the [French Revolution](https://www.worldhistory.org/French_Revolution/), leading revolutionaries over a mound of corpses.
