A stater was an ancient medium of exchange in the form of a coin made of electrum, [silver](https://www.worldhistory.org/Silver/), or [gold](https://www.worldhistory.org/gold/). This particular stater is inscribed "TASCIOV RICON," which refers to the [Celtic](https://www.worldhistory.org/celt/) King Tasciovanus, who ruled over the Catuvellauni tribe in [Britain](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Britain/).
