School integration in Washington, D.C., photograph by Thomas J. O'Halloran, 27 May 1955.

Depicted here in the foreground are a line of Black and White school girls while boys seated behind look on. The Supreme Court of the United State's landmark decision in *Brown v. Board of Education* (1954) declared racial segregation in public schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment, paving the way for integration.
