Leuckart Certificate (Penelope stares at her Shroud), by Max Klinger, Germany, c. 1900.

A print of Penelope, [Odysseus](https://www.worldhistory.org/odysseus/)'s unflinching wife in [Homer](https://www.worldhistory.org/homer/)'s *[Odyssey](https://www.worldhistory.org/Odyssey/)*, as she stares at the shroud she has been weaving for years. The shroud acts as a symbol of her devotion to her husband, whom she thinks is dead, and her unwillingness to marry any of the suitors that come before her.
