The so-called Temple of Diana is a [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) temple built between the end of the 1st century BCE and the beginning of the 1st century CE in the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of *Augusta Emerita*, capital of the Roman province of *Lusitania*, present-day Mérida (Spain). It was actually dedicated to the imperial cult, not to the goddess Diana, and must have been one of the city's main temples. The structure of this temple is similar to others dedicated to [Augustus](https://www.worldhistory.org/augustus/) [Caesar](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/caesar/).
