## Image Caption

One of the gates of the 25 BCE double Praetorian Gate of Aosta in northern [Italy](https://www.worldhistory.org/italy/). The two gates stand 12 m apart and each has three arched entrances - one central gateway for wheeled vehicles and two smaller passages positioned either side for pedestrians. Some of the orignal mable facing is still in situ. The gate was one of the four gates and 20 towers which formed part of the [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) walls of [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) Aosta.
