A Nabataean tomb at the magnificent site of Hegra, AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Hegra was a massive site settled during the [Nabatean](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kingdom_of_Nabatea/) and [Roman](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/Roman/) times. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, Hegra is located on a plain, dotted with sandstone outcrops, just north of the AlUla Valley. This site was once a key [city](https://www.worldhistory.org/city/) of the [Kingdom of Nabatea](https://www.worldhistory.org/Kingdom_of_Nabatea/), whose capital was based at Petra in [Jordan](https://www.worldhistory.org/Jordan/).
