Depicted here is a post-[war](https://www.worldhistory.org/disambiguation/War/) view of the woods where the [Battle of the Wilderness](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2843/battle-of-the-wilderness/) (5-7 May 1864) was fought, one of the bloodiest and most desperate engagements of the [American Civil War](https://www.worldhistory.org/American_Civil_War/) (1861-1865).
